Mastering the Magic of Micro

As your little one transitions from crawling to toddling, you may be looking for ways to keep them engaged and help them develop important skills. Enter: the Micro scooter! Designed for all ages, we know how to match a ride to the rider. Our baby and toddler collection was made specifically for little riders (ages 1-2), where we lean into the importance of encouraging your child's development through play. That's why we've designed our scooters to be reliable, fun, and supportive of your child's growth and exploration.

Developmental Benefits of Micro Scooters

You might be wondering why a scooter would be suitable for a child as young as one year old. As it turns out, Micro scooters offer a wide range of benefits for toddlers in this age group.  Not only do we hear positive feedback from parents, but we also receive helpful insight from healthcare professionals:

"It is so important to provide activities for children that allow them to move their body and develop strength and coordination while having fun! Riding a scooter is a great way for young children to build up their core muscle strength, whole body coordination skills, and a sense of self. Lean-to-steer style scooters allow for improving full-body coordination as the child steers the scooter while shifting their body weight, and two-wheel models help foster a stronger sense of balance. Through a fun and sometimes challenging activity such as riding a scooter, children are given great opportunities to practice and improve foundational skills which will transfer seamlessly into various activities throughout their life."

Gross Motor Skills Development:

  • Balance: Riding a scooter helps your child develop balance and coordination.
  • Strength: Pushing off with their feet and maintaining balance strengthens their leg and core muscles.
  • Coordination: Learning to steer the scooter via our lean-to-steer mechanism helps improve hand-eye coordination.

Independence and Confidence:

  • Riding a scooter gives toddlers a sense of independence and achievement as they learn to control and maneuver it.

Outdoor Exploration:

  • Scooting around outside encourages your child to explore their surroundings, fostering a sense of curiosity and love of the outdoors.

Socialization:

  • Riding scooters with other children encourages social interaction and cooperation.

How to Teach Your Little One to Ride

Teaching your child to ride a scooter can be a fun and rewarding experience for both of you! Here are some tips to get started:

Start Slowly:

  • Begin by letting your child sit on the scooter while you push them along. This helps them get used to the sensation of being on the scooter.

Use a Parent Push Bar:

  • Consider a ride like Micro’s Mini2Grow LED scooter which comes with a parent push bar, allowing you to help push your child forward as they learn to ride and get comfortable on their scooter. It also allows you to enjoy the scooter together!

Practice Balancing:

  • Encourage your child to stand on the scooter and hold onto the handlebars while you support them. Gradually let go as they gain confidence.

Offer Lots of Praise and Encouragement:

  • Celebrate your child's efforts and successes, no matter how small. Positive reinforcement will help them feel confident and motivated to keep trying.

Allow them to take their time:

  • Often, little ones need time to explore their scooter and get comfortable. It’s very common to see their first interactions pushing their scooter backwards like a shopping cart - and that’s ok! They’ll be riding like a pro in no time.
