Safety First: A Parent's Guide to Smart Scooting

We know how much your kids love the thrill of zooming around on their Micro Kickboard scooters, but safety always comes first! That’s why we’ve rounded up our top tips for scooting smart and having a blast along the way.

So grab those scooters, strap on your helmets, ring those bells, and let’s roll!

Helmet Happiness: Protect Their Noggin!

Helmets aren’t just cool-looking accessories—they’re essential safety gear.

They protect against spills, bumps, and those occasional tumbles, and they’re hands-down the most effective way to prevent serious head injuries. In fact, according to the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (OrthoKids), helmets are 85-88% effective at reducing head and brain injuries. Now that’s a stat worth buckling in for!

Before your child takes off on their favorite Micro scooter, make sure they’re rocking a helmet that fits just right. Micro Helmets go through rigorous testing and are certified by the U.S. CPSC. And, with bold, eye-catching designs, kids are actually excited to wear them—because the more they love it, the more they’ll wear it without a fuss.

Need help choosing the right size? We’ve got you covered—check out our blog on how to find the perfect helmet fit for your child.

💡Micro Tip: Set the example! Kids are more likely to wear a helmet when they see you wearing one, too. So strap on your own, and show them how cool it is to scoot smart.

Rules of the Road: Teach Traffic Smarts

Even though Micro scooters are loads of fun, they’re not designed for uncontrolled or overly-speedy rides. Remind your riders that scooting smartly means following some basic guidelines, like:

    • Riding only on sidewalks or paved, flat trails

    • Dismounting your scooter and looking both ways before crossing a road

    • Riding only in the daytime

    • Always looking forward while scooting

    • Applying the brake when riding downhill

    • Scooting with a buddy or a parent

Be Seen & Heard: Scooter Accessories

When your kids are out scooting, it’s important they stay seen and heard—and we’ve got just the accessories to make that happen (with plenty of fun baked in, of course!).

Ding ding! Our Scooter Bells are perfect for giving a friendly heads-up when approaching from behind. And while we don’t recommend riding after dark, our Scooter Lights help riders stay visible in low light and offer a helpful “just-in-case” safety boost.

Additional accessories like colorful streamers, bright baskets, or a playful ScootaHeadz pal can also add a touch of visibility—ensuring your rider can always be spotted while scooting.

Smart Riding: Miles of Smiles Ahead!

When it comes to your child’s safety, a little extra caution goes a long way. Micro scooters bring big-time fun, but the real magic happens when those joy rides are fueled by smart choices.

By building good habits—like always wearing a helmet, learning the rules of the road, keeping your ride in top shape, and adding a splash of visibility with accessories—you’re setting yourself up for smart and confident adventures.

Happy scooting! 🛴💨
