How to Choose the Correct Helmet Size & Ensure it Fits

Ready to roll? Before your little one takes off, make sure they’ve got the most important piece of gear—a helmet!

A great helmet doesn’t just protect your rider’s noggin from those wobbly first turns—it also helps them stand out and stay visible. And, with Micro Helmets, safety meets style! From bright colors to exciting designs, your kid can show off their personality every time they scoot.

Made with premium materials and smart design, Micro Helmets are made to go the distance. Each one features a removable fleece lining for cozy comfort, an adjustable spin dial for a snug fit, and a fuss-free magnetic buckle that kids can clip themselves. Plus, the built-in LED light adds an extra layer of visibility—perfect for those early evening rides.

So, how do you find the perfect fit? Keep reading for tips on sizing, adjusting, and getting your rider ready to roll!

Find the Right Size

A young girl smiles as she buckles her Micro Pattern Helmet.

When it comes to helmets, age isn’t the best guide—head size is! Micro Helmets are sized by measurement, not by age, so your little rider gets the snug and secure fit they need to stay protected and comfortable.

Think of it like shopping for shoes: your kid’s sneaker size depends on their actual foot length, rather than their birthday. Helmets work the same way!

To find their measurement, here’s what you’ll need:

    • A measuring tool—we recommend a soft, flexible tape measure.

    • No measuring tape? No problem! Use a piece of string and measure it against a ruler.

    • And, of course, your superstar rider!

How to Measure:

    1. Face your little one and make sure their hair is laying flat—no ponytails, clips, or accessories in the way.

    2. Start your measurement about 1.25 inches (roughly two finger widths) above one eyebrow. Hold that spot steady.

    3. Wrap it around the back of their head, keeping the tape nice and level all the way around.

    4. Where it meets the start, you’ve got your measurement! Jot down that number in centimeters (cm) or inches (in).

    5. Double-check for accuracy—measure a couple more times to make sure you’re getting a consistent result.

Once you’ve got your magic number, you’re ready to find the right helmet size! Match your measurement to the chart below to see which Micro Helmet will keep your rider safe, comfy, and ready to roll.

Extra Small

(Micro Pattern Helmets only)

46 - 50 cm (about 18 - 19.5 in)

Small

(Micro Pattern Helmets only)

48 - 53 cm (about 19 - 21 in)

Youth Small

(Micro Neon Helmets only)

51 - 54 cm (about 20 - 21.25 in)

Medium

(Micro Pattern Helmets only)

52 - 56 cm (about 20.5 - 22 in)

A Few Helpful Tips Before You Buy:

    • Between sizes? Go with the larger one. If your rider’s measurement corresponds to two different sizes (say, 48 cm- both in Extra Small and Small), choose the larger size for the best longevity. Just be sure not to size out of their corresponding size—kids’ head growth is slow and steady, and a helmet that’s too loose won’t protect as well.

    • Measure carefully—helmets are final sale. For safety and sanitary reasons, Micro Helmets can’t be returned or exchanged, so it’s worth double-checking those measurements before you order. A few extra minutes of measuring now means a better fit and peace of mind later!

Fit Their Helmet Securely

Already got your rider’s Micro Helmet? Awesome! Before they zoom off, let’s make sure it’s customized to fit their head just right. A few quick adjustments will give them a snug, secure fit—and peace of mind for you.

How to Properly Fit Your Child’s Helmet

    1. Start with the right position. Place the helmet level on your child’s head—not tilted back or forward. Don’t buckle it just yet.

    2. Check the placement. The front edge should sit about two fingers (roughly 1.25 inches) above their eyebrows. This helps protect their forehead while keeping visibility clear.

    3. Dial it in. Turn the red spin dial at the back until the helmet feels snug and secure—but not tight or pinching. (Hint: clockwise to tighten, counterclockwise to loosen.) Ask your little rider how it feels before moving on!

    4. Do the wiggle test. Have them shake their head “yes” and “no.” The helmet should stay put and not slip or slide—even with the chin strap open.

    5. Adjust the side straps. Keep the chin straps unbuckled and hanging down. Start on one side and open the black clip where the straps meet. Slide it up or down until it sits just below their earlobe, forming a “V” shape under their ear. Snap it closed securely—it may take a bit of pressure! Repeat on the other side.

    6. Fine-tune the chin strap. Thread the strap through the buckle slot and adjust until only one finger fits comfortably between the strap and their chin. That’s the sweet spot—snug, but not tight.

    7. Close the buckle. Bring the two magnetic buckle pieces together until they click into place. Give each strap a gentle tug to make sure everything’s secure.

When everything’s adjusted, your rider’s helmet should feel comfortable, stay in place during movement, and let them move their head freely. Now they’re ready to scoot smartly and in style!
